Viscosity refers to the ability of ink fluid molecules to attract each other and hinder the movement of molecules. In the printing process, the viscosity of water-based ink is a necessary condition for maintaining the normal transfer and transfer of ink. The factors affecting the viscosity of water-based ink mainly include the following aspects.

(1) The viscosity of the binder. For inks using the same pigment, the viscosity of the binder is large and the viscosity of the ink is also large.

(2) The size, content and dispersibility of the pigment particles. For the same binder, if the amount of pigment is the same, the larger the particles, the greater the viscosity, and vice versa. The better the pigment dispersion, the smaller the viscosity of the ink, and vice versa, the greater the viscosity of the ink.

(3) Temperature change. When the temperature is high, the relative fluidity of the molecules in the ink increases and the viscosity decreases; when the temperature decreases, the cohesion of the ink molecules increases and the viscosity increases.

Ink printing press manufacturers believe that the thixotropy of ink is the property of the ink's fluidity changing under the action of external force. On the printing press, due to the action of the ink roller, the fluidity and ductility of the ink increase during transfer, until the external force disappears after transfer to the printed sheet, and its fluidity and ductility decrease, and the ink changes from thin to thick, thus ensuring the accuracy and clarity of the embossing and dots. When the ink has good thixotropy, it is conducive to the smooth and uniform transfer of the ink and improves the transfer rate of the ink.
